Dass aus Italien neben fürchterlichem, Spinal Tap-mäßigem Pizza-Power Metal oder zuckrig klebrigem Melodic Rock-Pathos auch richtig guter Crossover Alternative Rock kommen kann, beweisen Spellbound Dazzle mit ihrem Debüt. Der vorliegende Einstand des gemischt kroatisch-italienischen Quartetts hat jedenfalls sämtliche Qualitäten, die man von einem gut bestückten und geführtem musikalischen Gemischtwarenladen erwartet, aber viel zu selten bekommt. Zwischen Metallica-Riffs und Hard Rock-Figuren, folkloristischen Färbungen, Videospiel-Motiven, Arien und melodischen Queen-Gesängen tanzen Spellbound Dazzle auf den Stühlen, die System Of A Down bis vor kurzem noch gänzlich geräumt hatten und Breed77 nur bedingt füllen konnten. Es gelingt zwar noch nicht jedes Song-Kunststück mit solch Genre-übergreifender Grandezza wie das fantastisch verrückte ‘Goodbye My Love’. Dennoch gibt es schon für den Versuch, abwechslungsreiche „Musica Mista“ in den krudesten Kombinationen aufzutischen, verdiente Bonuspunkte und mindestens noch ein Extraleben. Die erste echte Überraschung 2011: uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert.

BREAK OUT – Interview & Teil einer Anzeige, Review
Nach einem Desperadomäßigen Gitarren-Intro, lassen es die Italiener von Spellbound Dazzle krachen . „Goodbye My Love“ schlägt mit einem groovigen Refrain los und verbreitet gute Laune. Produziert wurde das vielversprechende Debüt von Siggi Bemm, der schon für Tiamat und Kreator gearbeitet hat. Aber auch für die Landsleute Lacuna Coil! Nun also nach Ihnen und The Dogma die nächste Italien-Combo, die rockige Klänge aus Pizza-Land exportieren möchte. Jedoch haben sie nicht viel mit den genannten Bands gemeinsam, steht hier doch mehr traditioneller Rock 'n' Roll auf dem Programm. Allerdings immer untersetzt mit tanzbaren Folk- und Polkaelementen, die den Sound der Band wiederum prägen und für den es keine passende Schublade gibt. Bei „So Close“ kommen sogar progressive Elemente durch. Wem das noch nicht reicht, richtig geknüppelt wird bei „Spaceman“, dessen Riff von einem Schlagzeuggewitter begleitet wird, allerdings immer radiofreundlich und zum Mitsingen. Bei „Ruska“ geht dann gegen Ende endgültig die Post ab, mit einem Polka-Stück, das die Puppen tanzen lässt. Wer da nicht mitgeht, der ist entweder taub oder tot. Der „Lai la lai“-Refrain reißt jeden mit. Das klingt wie Finntroll aus Italien und sticht aus dem Album dermaßen heraus. Genau wie im Vergleich dazu das Outro, das eine wunderbar schöne Piano-Melodie ist. Auf „Unreal FairyTales“ wird ein breites Spekrum an Musik und Emotionen abgedeckt, so dass für jeden etwas dabei sein dürfte.

Moderner Metal Groove (wie SYSTEM OF A DOWN: "SBD") trifft auf klassischen Hardrock im Stile der 80er Jahre (Spaceman) unter Beimischung von Progressive-Elementen, mitunter auch mit Einschlägen von Folk und Polka, was im ersteren Fall sehr nach Speedfolk klingt, im zweiteren beim ersten Hören etwas befremdlich. Natürlich dürfen auch die balladesken Elemente ("Goodbye My Love", In My Room") nicht fehlen, ebenso die großen keyboard untermalten Melodyparts (Rullo). Eine insgesamt handwerklich sehr gut gemachte Platte mit ausgemachtem Hang zum Experiment und Ausgefallenen. Kurz: Diese Scheibe ist eine Entdeckung wert!

The best way to describe this act is like a more driven Red Hot Chili Peppers. Full of random transitions and alternative highlighted sections, this album is nothing short of entertaining even for the most uptight of listeners…Conclusion, I’ll be keeping an eye on this group and I advise the rest of you to do the same. This band will leave nothing less than an impact on the metal/alternative scene. Great work guys, keep it coming.

Pour preuve, la première image qui m'est venue en écoutant ce disque a été: "mes poils se hérissent, je suis plus piquante qu'un hérisson enragé…" Mais toutes les métaphores bizarres que je pourrais vous citer ne vous diront pas ceci : mettez une croix dans votre calendrier à la date du 28 janvier. C'est fait ? Attendez la dite date afin de vous procurez cet album!…

…Modern grooving metal with danceable parts, a lot of tempo-changes and progressive elements combined with folk and polka rhythms. Other influences I hear are Extreme, Kiss ("The Foolin' of Each Other), Anthrax (a part of "So Close") and even tunes of Metallica's "Orion" ("Rullo"). Poppy groovy music with a metallic edge. The vocals of Stekovic Kreso sound similar to Serj Tankian at times, sometimes screaming and shouting, then again high kind of hysteric and clean…For me this is an album that will find its way into my car regularly. It is very contagious music and it makes me smile all the time. If you dig a combination of System of a Down, Kiss, Extreme, Mr. Bungle and Living Colour with poppy influences, groovy songs and folky parts at times, I almost know for certain you will like this. With producer Siggi Bemm (Kreator, Lacuna Coil) behind the buttons this albums sounds like a clock. First debut surprise of the year!

…A livello di band emergenti questo è sicuramente il disco dell’anno; penso inoltre che il suo ascolto sia doveroso per tutti, per conoscere e capire più a fondo la realtà musicale degnamente messa in piedi da questi quattro ragazzi, gli SPELLBOUND DAZZLE, partiti inizialmente in due con molte speranze dalla Croazia e ritrovatisi qui da noi tutti insieme dove hanno saputo dar dimostrazione delle loro potenzialità. Ora tocca al pubblico osare un po’ di più ed entrare nel mondo di queste “favole irreali”, senza paura di scoprire qualcosa di diverso da ciò che incontriamo tutti i giorni. Outside the box progressive hard rock from these Italians (half transplanted from war torn Croatia). The disco beats during ”The Foolin’ Of Each Other” or the polka accordion interpretation during some of the bridge changes on ”So Close” should give you a clue at their insane melting pot approach. Faith No More, Pain Of Salvation and slight modern groove influences equal a head shaker that keeps me open to future follow-ups.

…If this cd breathes an atmosphere, it is the pleasant mood of Mr. Bungle’s debut. Even the artwork reminds me of it, mingled with the absurd cartoons of Monty Python. And Spellbound Dazzle makes no mistake by sticking to one single style. The opening track ‘Goodbye My Love’ is a mix of loud metal with Italian Schlagermusic (as far as that exists), and to be more precise they shoot from the unexpected hip with the following ‘The Foolin’ Of Each Other’ by sounding more like KISS than KISS themselves. Spellbound Dazzle does have these moments in which they sound too literal like other bands, like the ‘citations’ of ‘Finale’ from Anthrax in ‘So Close’ or ‘Orion’ from Metallica in ‘Rullo’…
